Have you looked under the lid of your kitchen bin lately? Have you really given it a good clean aside from taking out the rubbish bag? There’s approximately 27 million households in the UK, and that’s a lot of bins! I wonder how many are really cleaned on a weekly basis.
A simple and effective way to treat the mold that can grow in your bin is with white vinegar and citric acid. The reason it’s more effective than bleach is because white vinegar combined with citric acid can kill the mold spores and prevent regrowth.
Simply take 1/2 cup of white vinegar and add 1 heaped teaspoon of citric acid (that’s the equivalent of the juice from a whole lemon). Mix and put into a spray bottle, then saturate the mold area. Leave for 1 hour to be fully effective, then spray and wipe clean with a cloth.
Voila!
